Magnia SG30 & Astaro V5

Ok.  I went and read some of the previous posts in reference to the SG20, but the SG30 is different.  It has (1) WAN & (7) LAN ports, a WIFI slot, and (2) PCMCIA slots.  There's no way I can add that to a regular PC and swap HD's.  Also, I think there might also be that LCD problem either because I'll be using V5 or because it's a SG30.  Any thoughts?

Bought it brand new for $380.  Has a modified version of RH Linux 8.0 on it, but want to install Astaro on it.

I called Toshiba in reference to the bundled CD & they had NO CLUE what I was talking about.  I refered them to SMB solutions program, but nothing.  Am I stuck using this box the way it is?  Can an Astaro partner hook this thing up?  Thanks for you input gents.

    Thanks guys for your assistance and directions w/ the URL's.  Actually learned a little on how to use VI to edit.  I'm still having a little trouble.  This is what I did.

    1)  Took the HD out of SG30 and onto my desktop & loaded Astaro.

    2)  Used (4) NICs.

    3)  Rebooted, and logged in as root as edited /etc/modules.conf.

    alias eth2 e100

    ---------------------------

    4) Turned off desktop, took out HD, and placed back into SG30.  Starts up & goes through the usual "lights" on the LCD.  Then it gets stuck and displays an error message on the LCD.

    5) Decided not to worry about the LCD and simply ping the default IP 192.168.2.100 255.255.255.0.  Nothing.  Damn!  Cabling is fine (ran through a simple hub).

    Question:  I haven't messed around with any of the other devices and easily slipped the HD back into the same slot.  No 2nd HD used.  Still keep getting this.

    So far, you guys have been right on the money with everything else.  Would really like to get this appliance up & running for home use.  I've searched the ASL v4 manual up & down, but no light at the end of the tunnel.

    Do these things have a serial console or anything?
    Can you hook that up (probably need a null-modem cable).

    BTW, if you don't like vi, try joe.
    (wordstar-like editor, ctrl-k-h brings up menu)

    No serial console.  Just Eth ports, PCMCIA slots & 2 USB slots.

    I wonder if there's anyway to get the serial console running on a USB port?

    Sorry,this is wrong. You didn't read the infomation carefully which has been posted ....  

     ->  not each port on the backside needs an alias entry in modules.conf.

    The 7 * RJ45 ports (LAN) are seen as "one" Interface or better..seen as "one" Gateway address.

    Yes it works great and runs without any trouble at home. 

    In case of trouble with loading ASL on SGxx you should normally contact toshiba and ask for a recovery CD or SGxx-Lift-Kit.  

    Btw: There is one serial port. But you need an adapter (PS/2->DB9)

    Yes it works great and runs without any trouble at home.
