Random lockups

I've had the system lockup a few times recently and this is the error I'm receiving in the kernel logs, btw, i can reboot and everything is fine for another week or two, it seems to happen randomly [:S]

astaro 4.023
hardware:
toshiba magnia
celeron 500
128m ram
10g 2.5 in. hdd

sounds to me like either a motherboard or hard disk issue. Have you tried using a different hard disk?

i dont currently have an extra 2.5in drive, but i am looking for one to try out, the disk i put in there was fairly new, i was just wondering if it is a DMA issue or hardware related basically (i hope it isnt the latter [:(])

Sounds to me like your HD is overheating or just plain dying.

Check drive temp with your fingers, if it is uncomfortable to touch for 10 or 20 secs, the drive is too hot.

Check drive temp with your fingers, if it is uncomfortable to touch for 10 or 20 secs, the drive is too hot.

I haven't considered overheating as an issue, I will check on that when I get home from work, thanks.

i think i have discovered the problem, i believe it is the accounting system, the past few times it locked up and became inaccessable the accounting system crashed. i have since turned it off and it is on its longest run without crashing thus far.
