smoothwall is a good basic firewall..i ahve deployed it myself..however Astaro offers better security due to being able to control outbound as well as inbound traffic.  Also the abillity to filter out things like p2p as well as superior VPN capabilities and a/v capabilities..it is relaly apples to oranges..[:)]

yeah I was pretty happy with SW, but was looking for something more sophisticated. It will take some getting used to, but than all will be fine and dandy again,

In the meantime I have to realise that being behind a not optimal configured firewalll could be more dangerous than having none at all.

Well several portscans were blocked adequate, so this is a nice start and after a few days, I can start to tighten security more.

well astaro by default block everything and allows nothing.  So you ahve to open it up..instead of trying to close it down.
