ID the Interfaces with a BLink?

the easiest way IME is the mvbast majority of boards number their slots with agp then the pci slot nearest the agp slot as pci 1 ang going from there.  Use two different nics at least.  ASL picks up the nics according to pci numbering..so most of hte time the nic in the first slot next to the agp(or the top pci slot or the far right pci slot depending on board orientation) will be the first one asl picks up..and then the second will be the second pci slot..etc etc..If this is not clear let me know i iwll attempt to explain better.

Thanks for the info!  I am having strange stuff in my box.  For instance, I have 6 NICs.  1=onboard RINO, 2-5 are Intel 10/100 Pro but it is only 2 PCI NIC cards whith 2 Interfaces on each NIC.  6=3COM card.  What is strange is when I browse to webadmin and navigate to NETWORK then INTERFACES the Web admin says it is assigned to eth0.  eth0 is a Intel 10/100 card, however I am only plugged into the 3COM NIC??  Every time I try and create a new interface I get locked out of web admin.  I must then login into the box goto /etc/init.d and reset the box?  Strange.  Does ASL only support a certain number of NIC's?  

What I am realy trying to do is I have 2 ISPs.  1 is verhizon avenue the othe is COMCAST.  Currently I have them going from the DSL and Cable modem into a 2912 which is split into 3 VLANs.  One for managemnt, and 1 each for each of the ISP,s.  These VLANs each have 4 ports in them.  I then have the 2 each Linksys per VLAN 2 and 3.  This way I can segment my traffic.  I have 2 Static IP from Verhizon Avenue, the other is used for COMCAST 1 is backup path to the internet the othe is used for my Kazar and Bittorrent stuff.  I have a NETscreen but it only has 1 untrust and 1 trust port.  I need to be able to provide firewall protection for incoming to my 2 ISP's so I thought ASL would be the right way to go.  But someone just told me ASL only supports one External WAN interface??  Please tell me this is not true, I would hate to think I have been wasting my time all this time.  I want to use 2 NICs for WAN ports route those to 2 NIC which will be trusted and plugged into my Core Switch a Cisco 2950 24 Popt Switch.  If ASL is only good for 3 NIC's what a waste!!!!!

thats by using mii-tool (only possible when your cards support it)

i had 6 nics before, too. but 3 of them shared irq 5. after enabling all of them and making some traffic at the same time on all nics, astaro freezed. after five minutes it was back and i could reach webmin. strage thing was that ips was no longer activated. after activating it again and after some minutes it freezed completely. i´ve decided to install it with the v5.15 iso and after the install and the boot it freezed again. and this after every reboot and then 2 minutes.
after trying all combinations (nic xy to slot1 etc.) i took one of the sharing cards out and installed it again. now everything works fine.
is irq sharing the problem?

sometimes that can happen..however irq shaaring is a fact of pc life as with more and more features being integrated there are only so many irq's to go around...This results in irq sharing being the norm and not the exception.  Since you got it working..i would let it be..[:)]

I recently had to build my firewall with lots of interfaces. The easiest way I found was to assign a DHCP range to each interface and then plug my laptop into each refreshing the DHCP lease. Once you have IP to NIC make a note of the MAC of each and draw a map or stick it on.

In reality it took me 30 mins to do and that was it donw once and for all. I just wish the MAC was printed on cards by default [;)]
