asl v5 boot issues

I cant boot from asl 5 cd on a few of my ibm pc's which are all of the same model. They are 300gl models,PIII machines with 450 MHZ processor and 128 MB RAM. The same bootable CD works in IBM Netvista P IV. I mean that I can boot win98 cds directly in all the above pcs. But asl 5 can only be booted in my P IV netvista model. Any pointers can be helpful.

A PIII 450 with 128MB of RAM is insufficient for ASL 5.  That isn't the cause of the CD issue, but this is something you should consider.

thanx for the pointer regarding the harware specs.. I changed my cd drive. Now I can boot directly from astaro. But I am getting an error message. I will quote as I can see on my PC.

"respawning too fast. disabled for 5 minutes"
can't open or create /var/run/klogd.pid

pls help on the above 2 error messages. what does it exactly mean? 300 GL PC running asl 5

This might be hardware related.  Can you at least upgrade the memory to 256MB?  Also, what is the size of the hard drive?

That mean (indirectly) that the init RAM disk is somehow corrupted. It could be due to errorneous reading from CD, or RAM problems.

I have not another idea for it. I'll ask our QA for the hardware, probably we'll be able to reproduce this problem locally.

Hi guys,
Hardware specs of my 300 GL IBM pc are as follows.
 450 MHz, 256 MB RAM. By the way I just wanted to point out that none of my 300 GL PC's boot from their CD ROM's when i use astaro. I can boot any other OS CD through these drives. The drives are all 48X speed. So I dont think it's because of some error on my CD drive. When i replaced the drive with a drive which came along with the netvista model, then astaro booted but as i pointed out, it gave the error messages as posted in my previous post

I am getting the exact same error message while trying to boot ASL 5.015 from CF-ROM. I am using an IBM PII w/ 128MB RAM. [:S]

You had written in your previous mail that you will be asking someone to install ASl using the same hardware specs. Did you try it at your end.

i also cant install it on a 300 gl pc of ibm.

pIII 550, 512 mb, 40 gb hd, 3 nics.

it hangs before it gets to the blue screen.

i also tried a different cd rom player, without success. the cd is good because i installed several demo machines with it.

Thank you for the information. It seems to be an hardware/BIOS/RAM issue with this IBM Hardware. Unfortunately we don't have such machine in our test lab and thre is no possibility to get one.

I would suggest to try the installation in "classic" mode, it should help with some buggy ACPI BIOSes.

I have tried using the classic installation mode with the same results.  Do you have any other ideas that could possibly work?  I would hate to have to buy new hardware for a software upgrade.
