Should I report a Kernel panic and i so how?

report it here in this forum..and report as many details as you can..the more information you can give the more quickly a resolution can be found.

Voodoo 3 Grapgics Card
Athon XP 2200+ Processor
3Com 3C509TX and or data General 82557 NIC
512Mb PB133 Ram (one Stick)
30Gb IDE hard drive

Astaro 5.0.10 Clean ISO install

Install goes perfectly.

If I leave the machine for any period of time i get the following error:

i ahve no idea when it comes to kernel panics..however since the interrupt handler is having issues(from what i see int he code) check the bios or apic functions..if it is off turn it on if on turn it off..also try to disable acpi.  There is also a no apic install option..try that as well.

please note that this procedure might be nescesary if your machine
doesn't come up after the reboot (only)

Howto to switch per default enabled APIC support
in updated (not new installed) Astaro Security Linux 4.008.

1)
When the boot prompt appears press TAB

Enter: default noapic acpi=off 

2)
If the device is booting now, login as root
cd to /emergency/boot/etc open lilo.conf and append the following line:

append = "acpi=off"

3)

activate the new setting by typing

lilo -r /emergency/boot

4) reboot

ACPI was enabled in the BIOS. I have disabled it and rebooted. 

If this fails i will move onto your other suggestions.

Well i a, pretty sure that is me tried every combination of ACPI suggetsions.

The best I got was 4 hours before a Kernel Panic.

I am considering scrapping this hardware and buying new kit but i will keep Astaro on this box for the next few days just incase anyone wants any more details for future bug fixes.

you said youhave tried acpi..did you try turning off apic(not the same as acpi) both in bios and in the bootup of astaro?  Also is there a bios update for you motherboard?

I am pretty sure I tried every combination of both but i may revisit it just to be sure.

I also tried to find a BIOS update for my board but it is as up to date as it can be.

I am willing to try anything else if it helps track down the problem. I dont want ot waste your time if its just a problem connected to my specific hardware.

have you tried v4?..jsut as a troubleshooting thing?

thast a point. I have never even seen V4 as I used other kit previously.

I will find a copy and try it out.
