Hardware too weak?

The celerons are much weaker processors clock for clock than their p-3 compatriots.  What all do you have turned on?  The big memory eaters are IPS and HTTP proxies.

William, I think you're confusing the current Celeron family with the old one. A 600 MHz Celeron is FCPGA so it's not too far from a full P3 in terms of clock-for-clock performance especially when handling small data/instruction sets. It has a 100 MHz FSB, full speed cache and SSE and should easily handle 3 users.

no..i am not..search the web for comparisions with p-3's against any celey..the celeies are dogs..for three users that should suffice..but even a lowly duron wipes the floor with the celey.

The Duron can keep up with a similar clocked P3 but it's a different animal with a solid FPU and better cache (note better not bigger). The Celeron 600 is a P3 with a different FSB (IIRC it's 66 not 100 vs. the P3's 100/133 until 800MHz Celeron) and 1/2 the P3's onboard full-speed cache (association is somewhat different between the two giving the P3 more of an edge) - the chips where nicked named Coppermine and Coppermine128. So in situations where the Celeron is not trying to stuff data into it's wee cache or handling large amounts of data across it's FSB, it will perform close to a P3.

Anyway, the main point is that this user's Celeron 600 is a great chip for this application and it should be of no concern that it's not a P3.

That Celeron is a borderline choice at best.  I'm not going to try to get into the technical minutia of processors, motherboards, FSB speeds, etc., but our company has run extensive, exhaustive examinations of the minimum hardware requirements for ASL 5.x from our perspective (a vendor).  We take a somewhat different view than Astaro engineering, because our focus is to sell hardware that works right the first time and will provide service for years to come.  We've tested ASL 5.x on a 600Mhz, 512MB system and the performance was lackluster compared to what ASL can really do.  The lowest we go is about 1 Ghz and 512MB of RAM, with the average installation at 2.4Ghz and 512MB.  Your mileage may vary, as they say.
