can I have 2 ext nics with 2 internet connections?

V4 only support one connection out of the box.  STF for a load blancing hack that you can get from another user of the forums.

I'm not trying to do load balancing.  I really need the 2nd line to be reserved for my webserver only.  The 1st ADSL line is reserved for the rest of the network (mail, internet acces etc), but I don't want my 2nd line getting saturated too when someone starts sending big mails.  Even with load balancing, both lines would be saturated for a (granted, shorter) period.  I just want to make sure that one line is always avlailable for my web server, no other traffic allowed.

can you get a fast enough line from your second provider that can handle the combined load?  V4 does support QOS traffic shaping so you can reserve high priority bandwidth for the webserver and make everything else lower priority..[:)]

Otherwsie AFAIK you will need a separate box to handle the webserver for the second line if you want to use astaro to protect it.

I *could* but that would be too expensive.  We now pay 30€ / month for a line with 384Kbps upload.  A 1Mb line would cost us 500€ / month  [:O]! 
I prefer paying 2 * 30€ / month, so I guess I'd better set up a 2nd box.

There is load balancing hardware available that aggregates 2 lines into 1.  Or even 4 into 1.  This may or may not be appropriate for the task.  Cost is about $400AUS (E200-300)?

interesting, do have any examples of that hardware?

Mmmm this has made me thinking.  Suppose I get the load balancing hardware box and I used QOS to reserve 50% of my total capacity for the webserver?
What's the load balancing box gonna do with the 2 (fixed) IP's that I'd have?

This is why I'm a bit cautious about using one of these boxes with real IP's.  I'm wondering what happens with routing.

I think they are mostly intended for home users to speed up inbound traffic.  I'd love to try one out though.
