LILO 02 02 02 02 ....

Hi at all,

first congratulations to this great forum.

i've got a problem in instaling Astaro 5.0. 
the installation is comnplete with no errors.

but when it try to boot my screens just say:

L 02 02 02 02 02 02 02 02 02 

i try to install it five times and its still this error.

does anybody have seen this failure or know how to fix it ???

    Did you install ASL direct on this machine or unplugged you the harddrive for an installation on another machine?

    I have to know a little bit more about your installation [;)]

    hi,

    i install ASL fresh to this HDD in this PC. Nothing special.

    i also format the mbr with a dos discette and istall ASL again but same failure !!

    is teh bios on the motherboard default settings? I'm wondering of there might be some wierd LBA thing going on here (just googling for the error, as my LILO is rusty now I've moved to grub [;)] )

    go into the bios and reset it to defaults(or fail-safe defaults) and try again.  If that fails then try finding an updated bios and flashing to it.

    just did a quick google, and it seems the 02 02 02 02 bit can indicate a problem with the drive? (media)? I do not ahve a box available with LILO, but maybe someone can man lilo or read the lilo docs to see if its covered in there in more detail....

    Well, I'm getting the same error from a box that was just running Gentoo...

    could you post details of the hardware you are trying to install on please.......

    MB: ASUS MES-N 
    Proc: Intel Celeron 500
    Mem: 376 MB RAM
    HDD: 20GB Samsung
    NICs: Intel Ethernet Pro 100
            Intel Ethernet Pro 100
            Linksys EtherFast 10/100

    Now, I finally saw the post from Barry G on this thread, and it was the solution; change from LBA to LARGE in the BIOS for the harddrive...  Thanks!

    Out of curiosity, is there any particular reason not to use GRUB instead of LILO?

    Not sure why Astaro is still using lilo. Grub does tend to be much more reliable than lilo and all my Linux servers have been switched over for quite some time now. [:)]
