WLAN cards

For sometime now I was curious to setup wireless in astaro, I have a Linksys PCMCIA WPC11 v3 card, in the HCL it showed this card was tested and working.  Assuming I’m using a desktop system I purchased a convert Linksys WDT11 that converts the card to PCI.  I assumed from the beginning drivers would be required for the PCI card before the laptop card would be noticed.  I guess my question is since there is no support for PCI wireless cards would the only alternative be a laptop?

    A Netgear MA401 16-bit 802.11b card in a Netgear 301 PCI carrier should work.

    Although ASL supports PCMCIA WiFi cards, the location of an ASL router is not nessessarily the ideal location for the WiFi access point, so I use a separate WiFi router connected to the DMZ interface on the ASL box instead.

    I doubt it, but would the odd combination of the Netgear MA301 & Linksys WPC11 work?  I noticed the WDT11 & WPC11 appears to be some kind of pseudo-PCMCIA combo which requires a recompile of the kernel with PLX driver loaded in short.  Of course with linux-wlan-ng is what I was referring to in order to load the PLX driver.   I haven't explored the extent of Astaro Security Linux to know if this was made possible for this type of change.  I’m pretty sure the plus pack which was made by another individual included the proper utilities required to recompile, but my question would be, even if I was able to get the correct drivers installed somehow, would Astaro firewall see the card through the web interface?

    AFAIK, Astaro does support some of the PCMCIA -> PCI adapters.

    I believe these are what are listed under
    "PCMCIA -> PCI CHIPSETS"
    on
    http://docs.astaro.org/HCL-5.0.txt

    but I'm not positive of that.
