Installation on Compaq Server

The Compaq Smart 2P controller is listed as "unsupported" on the ASL v5 hardware compatibility list. You can check the list yourself via the URL below:

You will have an easier time of it, if you stick to hardware that is on the list as either "tested" or "expected to work".

Which model of Compaq Proliant do you try on?  I successfully installed ASL V5 on a Proliant 1600 some two weeks ago on a RAID01, without checking out the HCL first. So I am currently even not sure if the SCSI controller is a 2P, but I think so.

Actually, it took me three attempts: 1. I forgot to install a sencond NIC, 2. the Linux kernel did not want to boot from the ISO image and I thought that I should check the HCL then, 3. just tried another reboot, and V5 actually came up and successfully installed.

So my recommendation: just try to boot again after power-cycling your Proliant. And make sure your CD with the ISO image is "of good quality".

My server is a Proliant 2500, and will boot other Linux distros from the CD Rom drive. Just can't get past initrd. Will try burning the ISO again.
