Automatic Pattern Up2Date Not Working?

I have Pattern Up2Date set to update automatically every hour. the last time I manually did an update was 5/12/2004 at 18:03 (USA CST) it is now 7:01 on 5/13 ... i have not seen this feature actually work. if i were to force a manual download now, i expect that it would find a pattern update and download it. my question is, is this something I have not done correctly in my settings? or, is this something anyone else has run across? Prefetch up2date does not appear to work either. for 5.007, instead of prefetch up2date grabbing it i had to press "start" and manually tell it to go get it. (not THAT big a deal, i know, but hey "automatic" should be well, "automatic".)

i'm gonna NOT force an update and leave it all day, make sure that it is not automatically updating and wait to hear what others say about it.

As already mentioned in the thread at beta forum, after updating to 5.007 the Up2Date service hasn't worked here. None of the system, virus or ips patterns have been retrieved. I have set the Up2Date to do everything hourly. I tried to stop and restart the Up2Date services, but don't know yet if it does any good.

Okay, there's a fix for the automatic update problem. Don't know if there will be a correction package, but at least this one works:

ssh to box, su to root
check /etc/crontab for /var/wfe/_update.pl

if exists, something else is wrong. if doesn't exist, do the following:
/etc/init.d/mdw restart

You will loose all connections for a short time ..
Afterwards, the line should be at /etc/crontab and everything should work okay.

Sweetness, thanks. Now I just need to figure out how to ssh to my box ... can i just do it from the terminal as root? ... if it is this easy, perhaps they will just add it to the next patch ...

Atrius, sure you can use root console to do the same thing.
Restarting middleware happens in quite many update's so it's rather regular thing to do. Don't know yet why this happens only in a handful of setups.

I experience the same problem after updating to 5.007, and there is no such entry in the crontab. So restarting the middleware does not solve the problem that ASL 5.007 does not run its up2date daemon anymore here.

The Up2Date works again automagically after I reinstalled my firewall from the 5.005 ISO image, updated it to 5.007, and restored my configuration backup.

I have done the same, installed 5.005 and updated to 5.007, but it's not working...

Pattern up2date is also not working here. I remembered it was not working untill version 5.003 or so. Then it worked until 5.006. On 5.007 it stopped working again.

Last night I rebooted the system for some reason. From that moment on the up2date seems to be working again. (5.007)

Same here, I rebooted the system and it now appears to work.

Rick, are you seeing it automatically update at the end of each hour it has been up? at the top of each hour in your timezone?

Exactly every hour after reboot. today I got updates at 15:37, 16:37 and 18:37
