S-ATA, SATA, Serial ATA, Serial-ATA

Dear Astaro users,

unfortunately Astaro Security Linux doesn't support S-ATA drives directly - but most systems allow you to switch the operation mode for the disk controller from S-ATA to 'legacy' which makes an installation work.

I don't think that there will be a noticable decrease in speed.

    It would be a very nice feature to have, for ASL to include the Promise Ultra and FastTrak IDE drivers in the distribution. These drivers are available for Linux.  There are currently Promise IDE controller chips available for both regular ATA and S-ATA. Many motherboards these days have the Promise high performance IDE controllers embedded on them. The Promise drivers remain the same whether the disk drives are of the  ATA or S-ATA type, making the S-ATA connectivity issue transparent.
