maybe a silly question but how do I allow HTTPS to use port 8443 ? HTTPS shows up in 'services' with port 433 and status 'static'. How do I add port 8433 ?
Go to Network-->Services and create a new service HTTPS-ALT using port 8443 and then create a new packet filter rule to allow this traffic. This type of thing is in the documentation. Please refer to it before posting to the forums, thanks.
Well, as a matter of fact I did look it up. I added the service 'Test - tcp - 8443' and set the rules as a test to 'any - any - any - allow' just to be sure but that didn't work.
Now, I tried your suggestion, added HTTPS-ALT but all to no avail. I try to reach a site which uses HTTPS with port 8443 but keep on bumping into 'access forbidden - access denied by access control list'. All the rest works like a charm : http, https (443), ftp, etc ...
I don't have a clue what I'm doing wrong. I called my ISP but they don't block 8443 on their firewall and I checked it on my two pc's : one running Suse 9.0 and one running Windows XP Pro ... alas the problem persists.

If you are receiving a message in your web browser that says access is denied, then you are being rejected by the server. The firewall should be allowing the traffic through. If the firewall was dropping the traffic, you should get an "unable to connect to server" message instead.
