i probably will upggrade ASL 4 to ASL 5.
ASL 4 was running very fine on my testbox, and now ASL 5 setup tells me:
hdd is too small!
*gnaaaaa*
i know, that ASL5 HCL says: minimum 8Gig,
but WHY the hell ?
my hdd is 4Gig and if i do a df -k, i see the root-partition
filled up with just ~250MB of binaries, and none of the other six partitions is filled up >50MB.
so, including swap, this is smaller than ONE gig - and i have FOUR.
you really won`t tell me, that ASL5 really NEEDS an 8GB hdd ?
even brand new suse 9.1 (complete install) doesn`t need that space!
i wonder, why astaro did create an installer with such "hard limit" !?
i searched the list and i`m convinced, that it`s a HARD limit. see posts like: https://community.sophos.com/products/unified-threat-management/astaroorg/f/68/t/60513
(please tell me if i`m wrong)
please make that configurable or at least a "soft limit" like:
"warning - your hdd is too small. please keep in mind that ASL probably needs some space for cache, logs , whatever ....(depends on what features you use)"
every linux-distro lets the user decide himself, how to partition his hdd and how to manage space.
why does ASL behave such "dumb" here ?
i`m sure, there is no technical limit that a smaller hdd can be used - that`s just "political", "psychological" or "overcautious", IMHO.
maybe astaro probably have contracts to hdd manufacturers ? [;)]
why should i trash something which WORKS and ever worked for me, and for sure works with your V5 - just because probably some manager decided: naaa - 4Gigs is old crap - throw that away. [;)]
yes, maybe i`m standing upon trifles here and it`s not even worth the time, writing this long mail(instead of going to order another hdd), but i`m for sure not the only one who needs to upgrade his hdd, because of such "wasteful" decision. the hdd runs fine, and if i order another one, it needs my time, my money and the hdd probably has compatibility issues (know murphy?) with my system....
sorry - but i`m really getting angry about such things!
last year i rolled out an application in the company i work - and the "minimum hardware requirement" was 1GB RAM.
wondered about that, checked that and the application runs FINE
without any problem and needs.....guess what.....
