Hardware List wrong in my V5-Install?

Hi,

I have installed Astaro 5.001 on a Toshiba Magnia SG20:

1. Setup/Install on a notebook 
2. Login on the notebook and aliased the network interfaces eth0 and eth1 to the Toshibas network interfaces in modules.conf
3. Removed the HD and put it in the Magnia. It worked, but...

In the hardware list it now shows the 3com hardware for the WAN interface - which really is a Intel in the Toshiba. 

The LAN-Interface is shown as unknown but can be connected to. It really is a 8139too.

Everything seems to work anyway (I can connect to firewall) so how can I "refresh" the hardware list?

    Apoligies if this is a daft question, but have you put the hardware in the right order in modules.conf?

    it should be:

    =============use exact syntax=============
    alias eth0 8139too
    alias eth1 e100 
    =====================================

    If they are the wrong way round then that is probably what is confusing astaro.

    Hi,

    checked it again - no mistake in modules.conf.;-)

    The reason must be somewhere in the hardware detection mechanism beeing confused by removing the HD from the computer with the 3com and putting it in the Magnia. I wonder where the "hardware list" is beeing read from...maybe it is just some static information which is not checked by Astaro after installation? Maybe there is a way to tell Astaro to "redetect" after installation?

    Unfortunately I don't think there is a way to do a "redetect" after the astaro install, at least there wasnt in version 4, as i wanted to add a new network card without a re-install.

    Can the astaro developers tell us if this is now possiblle in version 5?

    I had a similar problem with version 4, but that was because I'd installed astaro on a system with only one nework card, and transferred it over to my SG20 with 2. 

    I now use VMWare with 2 virtual adapters to install, and then swap disks, and hav'nt had problems since. Sorry thats not much help to you [:)]

    Hi Manctastic,

    it is of some help to me, because the notebook I used to install also had one NIC only. At least I know that the described behaviour then is 'normal'. I will reinstall using a PC with 2 NICs.

    Anyway, on the long run there should be a fix by the Astaro team on that topic (redetect/rescan-Button in network->interfaces->hardware). :-)

    P.S.: I have reinstalled and the realtek now shows up as eth0, still the eth1 E100 is shown as unknown.

    What happens if you reverse the order of the modules in modules.conf?

    Can you try putting E100 first and then 8139too?

    haven't tried, but it works flawlessly anyway (cabled network, wireless still no tcp/ip - see other topic). The interface is already shown as unknown in the PC which has been used for installation before switching to the Magnia. It is an onboard Intel VE in the host PC, so I assume, that Astaro has problems recognizing it (Hermes 845 PC).

    Rather a cosmetic issue, so I will not pursue this topic any further:-).
