W2K Server DNS Resolution When ASL v5 Running

Hi

Installed ASL v5 OK (testing with 1 NIC only). However, when the firewall is running, I lose DNS resolution via my W2K server. ASL has NO config loaded (only the installation defaults), therefore most of the proxies, services etc are disabled. In order to get DNS going again I have to shutdown ASL and reboot my W2K server.

As a precaution, I installed ASL v4 just to check if this created a similar problem. In this case, ASL v4 does NOT prevent DNS resolution via the Windows server.

Any advice or solution would be greatly appreciated.

Is there an IP address conflict by any chance?

That was my first thought, however I double-checked after I closed down ASL. No other machine on network with the same IP address as the firewall.

Since posting my original message, I changed the IP address of ASL and rebooted ASL and my DNS server. To my surprise, both now "co-habit" peacefully. I know I've used the old IP address of ASL before on another machine, but it's been NIU for quite a while. I wonder if my W2K server reacted to the ASL machine and "got it's knickers in a twist" whilst it was running!?

Make sure you have DNS configured correctly in the DHCP server settings if you're using DHCP.

I am using DHCP, and DNS is setup OK within DHCP. That part has been working for a few years now.
