Adding a NIC to an existing install...?

Hi everyone,

I've recently desided to add a third NIC to my asl 4.021 box in order to create  a DMZ. I don't really want to re-install and was wondering if I could hear some stories (successfull or not) about adding a 3rd NIC to an existing install.

I haven't added the card yet but here are some details about my setup:

192.168.0.0/28
ADSL as WAN link
all proxies on
----------------------------
PII 350 w/512MB 40gig IDE
2 x Realtek 3189C (the 3rd nic would also be a 3189C)

P.S> the box has been up and running smooth for almost a year. Which is why I'd rather add a card than re-install even though I have full configence the re-install would go off without a hitch.

    make it easy and have the system mail you a backup config file..then reinstall with the three nics..when the system comes up do all the up2dates then add the thrid nic via webmin..simple..[:)]

    Agreed; that is so simple I believe that is why Astaro has not allocated development time to adding a NIC upgrade/change feature, and instead focused on other features people are screaming for.

    You can do it from command line, but it's not worth the grief (unless you actually enjoy doing those sorts of things...)

    Search the forums for modules.conf if you want to do it manually.

    guys... I already knew that I could email myself the backup; I do that daily. And I totally agree the easiest and probably fastest way is to re-install and import the backed up config.

    I'm looking to learn from experiences of individuals that have done this the hard way...

    -What if any, were the snags encountered?

    -Did you already have an SSH server running on the same LAN and if so, how did you get by enabling SSH on ASL without running into conflicts with the existing SSH server?

    -Were they identical NICs if not, did you choose different ones because you knew you'd have problems?

    -Where are modules.conf and the ifcfg-eth files located?

    ...etc

    I think it's clear I'm not looking for the easy way out so those of you who are going to suggest anything similar to that please restrain from posting on this subject.
