Multiple External Dynamic IP Addresses

Is Astaro 4 capable of handling multiple external dynamically assigned IP addresses?

I have timewarner roadrunner 'teleworker' package, and by default I am alotted three(3) dynamic IP addresses. I was able to specify the use of DHCP on the interface alotted the external connection, but adding additional DHCP IP's doesn't seem to be an option, at least not obviously.

I am running Astaro 4.0.21

    3 dynamic IP's??? That sound kind of weird but weird things happen I guess. Anyways, I don't think you will be able to accomplish what you are wanting to do. When a NIC pulls a DHCP address, on the DHCP server the IP given is mapped to the MAC address on your NIC for a certain period of time. You can see the problem....a DHCP server will assign an IP and if you try to pull another(??) dynamic IP with the same card(??) it is probably going to assign it the same IP because the lease time has not expired and it thinks that the NIC is just trying to renew. Hopefully this made sense.

    Yes it makes sense, and thanks for the information.

    Yeah, I agree it might sound weird, but 3 dynamic IP's come standard with the package. I was trying to utilize all three, but if it isn't going to happen I can live with just one.

    There are some alternatives for using the extra addresses.
    You could place a small 5-port hub or a switch between the broadband modem and the ASL box. This would allow you to do several things.

    1. Placing a web or FTP server on a real IP address.

    2. Placing an exposed honeypot machine on a real IP address.

    3. Running ASL with more than one External interface, each on a seperate (via DHCP) IP address, and then using these interfaces for different purposes via your routing and filtering.

    I'm with velvetfog on this one. Use 3 separate NICs for your external interfaces and place a switch between your cable modem and ASL. If you can't get a Power Home License or afford buying a license for a 4+ NIC box, use 2 or 3 old crappy machines. PPro200s work fine for low demand firewalls and you can get them for $75 each.
