No connect after installation

At the console, when you type in ifconfig, does it show 2 active interfaces? If so, does the info look correct?  

There is just an LO entry (no eth0 no eth1). So there is no active NIC installed. What I can do??? At the installation the two cards are detected.  

Are your NIC's on the HCL?  http://docs.astaro.org/HCL-4.0.txt
If not, that could be a problem
If so,
At the command line type:
cat /etc/wfe/conf/itf.conf
Take a look at this file and check it out for anything that does not look correct.
The things to look for is the address line and the status line (1 == on, 0 == off)
If something does not look correct, vi /etc/wfe/conf/itf.conf, and make the needed changes, reboot, run ifconfig, see if you now have active interfaces, try webadmin.   

I thinig it´s all right:

status=1

The NIC are not listet in the textfile, but Astaron works with one NIC, so...


Any other ideas???  

If I'm reading your problem correctly....you can access the webadmin when just 1 NIC is installed. If that is the case then it is starting to sound like a HW conflict possibly. Try switching the PCI slot that the 2nd NIC is inserted in to and then give it a try.

1 more thing...after switching the slot, I'm not 100% sure that the OS will 'cleanly' pick up the change....it might not hurt to just do another clean install of ASL after the switch just in case...it only takes acouple of minutes anyways.

I´ve changed the Slots two times. It´s all the same. I try do get another NIC but I think it won´t work anyway.

Do you have another idea??? Perhaps the Hardware is not designed for the Astaron stuff, but I don´t understand, why it works with one NIC...  

Maybe that NIC is bad?? Have you tried that NIC (the one that is breaking ASL) by itself as a troubleshooting step? I would definetly start looking at getting another NIC at this point. Good luck!!  

Ok you say that you have 2 NICS , If both of them are installed only one works. Are they both the same Brand of netowrk cards ? If so pull one of them out switch around and see if the other one works. I would pickup a couple of 3 com cards you can find then very cheaply and try that I agree with bent sounds like you have a bad network card...   

No, if only one NIC ist installed it works. When I put a second one in than is the error. But you are right, will try another NIC. Both are Realtec NICs. Thank you!  

While Realtek is not a brand name I would recommend for Ethernet cards, since I prefer the top-of-the-line 3Com and Intel cards, they should nevertheless work. You need to make sure that the two cards are not using the same IRQ (interrupt vector). You should be able to adjust this in the PC's Bios, or by moving the cards around, trying them in different PCI slots.    

Realtek IS a brand name..only one of hte largest OEM's in discrete components.  Onbaord ound?  MOst are REaltek.  OnBoard LAN many are RealTek..they are not a large retail but huge in the OEM space.

However, I stand by what I said, Realtek is not a brand that I would prefer to use, or would recomend to anyone. My experience tells me that I get the best performance and the fewest hazzles if I stick with the 3Com 3C905 or the Intel E100 100BaseTX PCI Ethernet cards.

At this moment, I am running my ASL v4 setup on a Compaq Deskpro EN SFF (small form factor) machine that has an Intel E100 chip on the motherboard. In addition, I have an Intel made, Compaq branded, dual port Ethernet card in the machine.

This setup works flawlessly. My old setup with the Realtek chip, identified it as "unknown chipset".
