Root Password?

wtf
I have no clue what my root password is and honestly I don't even remember setting one. I want to SSH into the firewall to get rid of some DHCP leases that will not die. Any other way to do that?

    Hi WTF !!
    As far as I know, you have to login as "loginuser" and afterwards switch to "root" (su -) if you would like to use SSH. Login as root in the first place is not possible !!!

    WTF,

    if you login via WebAdmin the first time, you have to assign a root password before can access.
    If you really forgot the root password, you can reset it on the console. Edit the file /etc/wfe/conf/settings and change the value of the parameter reset_pwd from 0 to 1. The next time you access the WebAdmin, you can assign all passwords.

    How is he going to log onto the console to edit that file if he doesn't have the root password to login with in the first place??

    Can you edit that file with loginuser? If you can, you're home free.

    One solution: backup/reinstall....

    I think backing up and re-installing would be his only solution !

    try rebooting, and when the LILO prompt comes up, type:

    Code:
    linux single


    when you get to a prompt, type

    Code:
    passwd root


    and change the password. Some distributions do not permit this however, but it is worth a try before your rebuild!

    mmm.... just looked at lilo.conf and you may need to type

    Code:
    default single


    instead....
