Is there a way to install the hp management agents on ASL? These agents are needed for controlling the fan speed. Otherwise they will be running at full speed!!!
There must be a developer version of ASL4, with the kernel source and other utilities. Is it possible that astaro compiles the kernel modules needed for the HP health utility, and provides to the astaro community?
(these modules are the same for all HP proliant servers sold at this moment)
I would suggest adding a simple rheostat to each affected fan. Zalman Fanmates are excellent since they plug in-line between the fan & motherboard. That way you can turn each fan down to an acceptable level.
BTW, is this server not in a network room/rack? If it is, then whats wrong with a little noise?
The connectors are HP (compaq) style... so thay won't fit the rheostat/zalman connectors.
The server is in a rack, which is located in a server room, but with out the health software I can hear the server trough 3 walls and 40 meters of office space. :-S
I'm not running ASL on a ProLiant but I do have other ProLiants and anyone who has a ProLiant will agree that getting the HP drivers to work is pretty much a "must"
There is no way to physically modify the fans unless you want to seriously void the warranties.
there may be a way to manually install the HP drivers...

Yes, I've had contact with Gerd Seipel(astaro) about this issue, he had asked the development team what they could do. Unfortunately they can't do anything about this at this time.
conclusion = don't use HP-proliant servers with asl.
