windows xp says network cable unplugged

I just installed astaro, rebooted , ran cable from computer to

the onboard ethernet i selected during install ,

go to my windows box and it says cable is unplugged , test cable by plugging it into my old router , it connects

any idea what the problem is ? i have one dlink netcard and a onboard one on a sis 635 chipset , it reconized both during the install

in order to directly connect two computers via NIC cards you mustuse a crossover cable..a regular cat5 will not work unlesss you put a hub/switch in between the two.

No, it just acts as a firewall and gateway.
You can set it up like this with one computer:
Code:
Astaro box____
              \
               Computer


Or you can use a switch:
Code:
Astaro box________Switch___________
                   \                \
                    Computer 1      Computer 2


As mentioned above If you wan't to connect a computer (Astaro box) to another computer (Your workstation) you will have to use a crossover. 568A -> 568B.
