7 minute Filesystemcheck

When booting ASL the console says

VFS:Mounted root (ext2 filesystem)
Filesystemcheck running - please standby

then it takes over 7 minutes for the filesystemcheck to complete

1.  Is this normal?
2.  Is it checking for corrupt files or changed files because of a security breach/virus/trojan?
3.  Is there a way to disable this?

    I would suggest that in order to obtain the quickest reboot time, don't run ASL on a bigger hard drive than you really need. 80 GB is quite big. I have run ASL v4 on disks in the 2.5 to 9 GB range, and they booted very quickly. I know 2.5 GB is too small for a production installation, but that is what I first tested ASL v4 on.

    Also, IDE drives do not have very good performance when subjected to bidirectional data traffic. This is where SCSI drives outperform them. I bet you would get a dramatic reduction in boot time if you replaced the 80 GB IDE drive with a 9 or 18 GB SCSI drive.

    Remember, an ASL box is a router, not a file server. Save your big 80 GB drive for use in a Windows workstation PC.

    Look at your logs and make sure its not finding any type of disk or smart errors.  I had a WD 20gb drive which would take forever to re-boot.  After using WD's disk utilities, it found a couple bad sectors & fixed the problems.  I'm guessing the problem areas didn't have astaro data on them since everything ran fine.
