No NICs found

Hi,

I tried to setup ASL 4.017, but did not found any NICs.

The Asus P4GE-VM(BP) board has integrated Intel 82562ET PHY
and three Intel PRO/1000 MT Low Profile Desktop Adapters
(82541GI / PWLA8391MTBK20 / C36064-003).

To be fair on ASL, also Gentoo-based rescue CD and Fedora Core  1
install CD failed to find any of the NICs. The Intel site claims support
for both NIC types, although the READMEs in the Linux driver
packages do not list these model numbers...

Any chances?

    Things are not as bad as I thought.

    The Intel 82562 ET on the motherboard was disabled in the BIOS.
    (Sure, if one buys extra cards, the one on mobo is not needed?)

    That is now regognized and I can setup ASL. The setup bluntly
    refused to work on machine with "no NICs".

    As for the Intel 82451GI NICs, (PCI id 8086:1076).
    The latest e1000 module from Intel  (5.2.30.1) seems to
    have it listed in the sources, as does 5.2.20-k1 from kernel-2.6.1.

    I saw in another thread words 'pluspack' and 'kernel extraversion'
    in context of compiling kernel modules for ASL box. Is it a RTFM
    to get the latest Intel module into the Astaro?

    some weeks ago I have compiled a newer driver for INTEL GB cards. But unfortunately I  had never the chance to test it.

    In what timeframe ASL is likely to include e1000
    drivers w/ support for current cards? Standard,
    warranted products are sort of a must here.

    I'll opt for changing the cards for now.
