HighPoint IDE Raid question

This is a question from a brand new user so please be gentle.

I plan to do a new test bed type installation of ASL 4.  I would like to incorporate (cheap) IDE RAID controller from HighPoint (RocketRAID 133) to do simple mirroring.  On their web site they provide drivers for various Linux distros.

At this point I am having two questions:
1) Whose distribution is ASL based on?
2) If proper driver exists, how exactly can I load it?

    1) ASL isn't based on a existing distribution. They made their own one.

    2) Please do not install foreign drivers on ASL. It's not supported. If you would like to do so, you need a compiler.
    Please have a look to the HCL for a list of supported hardware.

    perhaps a flash memory DISK instead of RAID?
    I seem to recall reading about that somewhere in the forums.

    As quickly as you can install ASL I am not sure if RAID is the way to go.
    you can install and apply configuration in under 30 minutes.

    But if you require HA in your environment then you should consider using the HA solution provided by ASL.

    for my home use I just keep a backup of the configs on another machine.
    In the unlikely event of failure... I'll temporarily use a Linksys while I "repair" my ASL box.

    We found that the only IDE raid card fully supported by Astaro is by 3ware.....  www.3ware.com.
    I think we used 7006-2. the only problem is that there is no way to tell if the Mirror is broken apart from looking at in the Bios i.e The card does not beep or anything.
