Can't see access point but webadmin says its up!

Oh.. and I am sooo close...

asl says my wlan0 is up and GREEN. Have setup wlan0 as an access point with WEP enabled.. (had it disabled too).

But I can't see the network?

No matter what I do I cannot connect.

I am using a Compaq WL100 in a Ricoh PCMCIA bridge.
no errors when booting.. I do hear 2 beeps when it starts PCMCIA though..

I guess I should try noapic although it is seeing the interface just fine... in fact when I change from access point to station I see the kernel log telling me it changed modes.

Hope you can help.. I really don't want to put the Linksys wireless back in service.
