Excellent ADSL router for Astaro

I have been searching for a way to use the IP assigned by the ISP directly on Astaro for a while (PPPOA). I have finally found such a way and it works a dream. It's an SAR130 router which was only £50 from www.solwise.co.uk and when configured in "ZIPB" mode it provides the IP directly to Astaro via DHCP. This now allows the NATing to be done on the firewall as apposed to the ADSL router which would crash when using certain applications and games.

    It's called "Bridging"... effectively makes the device transparent.  Most ADSL devices have this option [:)]

    It not quite bridging actually, PPPOE devices do support bridging as you say but this is not possible with PPPOA due to the way it works. Whilst some PPPOA routers support whats known as "half Bridged mode" (Conexant Chipset) which is simply mac spoofing, this is not acceptable as it assigns the MAC of the router for each and every IP address on the Internet connected to. This is a problem as Linux only supports 512 Arp entries in it cache. The ZIPB mode of the SAR130 works slightly differently and doesn't assign an IP to each and every IP and only assigns one MAC which is the ADSL Router. In this mode it is still even possible to use the firewall on the DSL router, but I have it disabled as Astaro is much better.
