Hello,
I am running ASL 4.017 on a 1Ghz P-III with 512MB RAM and 80GB IDE/7200RPM drive. Every night at midnight I get several warning emails about the system load going too high. The ps output shows the culprit is processing logs at midnight.
What is the best way to attack this problem? Is there a way to reduce the logging so there is less to gzip and archive? Should I ditch the P-III for a Xeon or P-IV CPU?
I am not running any regex spam detection, just spamd and smtp. No content proxy or socks.
I have compared the load to external and intenal network traffic and it doesn't coincide with any huge spam waves, DoS or http traffic.
The ps output clearly shows the log processing as the cause.
Suggestions?
Thanks!
