3Com NIC's not recognized

I have two brand new Dell machines with 3Com NIC cards that are not being recognized.  This is not so much the problem as that Eth1 locks up once or twice a week.  Eth1 is the WAN side of the ASL.  Anyone see this before?

    I'm running asl 4.017 on an old dell machine with a 3c509b onboard and three 3c905c(x)-tx-m. Although they were recognized normally, it took some hard tries to set the onboard nic as my administrative, internal interface. Each time after rebooting after the installation, the onboard nic selected was not longer my internal nic. I solved this problem by trying different pci slots for my cards (now I use the last three slots). Now everything works, except the webadmin page for the interfaces shows 2 3c905b and 2 3c905c instead of 1 3c905b and 3 3c905c.
    I believe this a irq problem, but I'm not sure.
    So try different slot(s) for your pci card, maybe this helps.

    Hello all,

    To add weight to the preceeding post, (at least) 3Com cards and PCI/IRQs are seriously sensitive about each other. I have worked with two ASL 3.x/4.x (different version during upgrades) and can only concur, moving the cards around, taking notes of their MAC addresses, cat /proc/pci to find which one is on which port / recognized  before even beginning to wait for the line to Internet to come up is critical, repeat critical. I have worked for hours rebooting until I realized that I had to move the cards around, even changing which card was on the inside/outside before the machine was happily working with all the NICs.

    Move them, take notes which are found, them move them again, repeat until you have all cards found, then move Internet cable to desired (and properly identified NIC) and now your're rockin'
