Boot hangs at "Installing Interfaces"

I've got a little problem with my ASL box. I've set it up with the 4.008 ISO and the updates made no problems, too.
But one thing is a bit strange: after a reboot the boot process stalls at "Installing Interfaces". If I do a hardware reset there is no problem at all.

So far as I can see it is the onboard NIC. During BIOS boot the link LED is on but after LILO starts the LED turns off and do not come up again.
I tried to work around by switching off this NIC but there is no possibility in the BIOS.

The system contains:

Supermicro server mainboard with PIII 500
512MB RAM
SCSI HDD and CD-ROM
onboard NIC Intel Corp.82557/8/9 [Ethernet Pro 100]
PCI NIC's
Intel Corp.EtherExpress PRO/100+ Management Adapter 
Digital Equipment CorporationDECchip 21142/43

Any ideas?

    Maybe some trouble with the interupt assignment. When I installed Astaro 4.008 on an old dell machine with a onboard nic (3c905b) and three pci nics (3x3c905c-tx-m, two different revisions), all using the same driver module. I'm not sure, but i think, this is a interupt problem. I can't use the onboard interface as my internal interface (for administration), although I configured it in the dialog. Even changing the configuration in the webadmin tool did not work. I solved this problem by trying different slots (now I use the last three slots).  Now it works fine, but the interfaces are displayed incorrect on the network-interfaces page (it says, I have two 3c905b and two 3c905c).
    I made some test installations on another hardware before with three and four pci nic cards (only 3c905c-tx-m, different revisions), sometimes the hardware detection took a real long time. I did not pay very much attetion to this before, but maybe this was caused by some shared interupts too.

    I had the problem from the beginning. There was no changing during the astaro updates.

    Good suggestion, but I don't think that it is an IRQ issue. First of all, every NIC gets its own IRQ.So there is no IRQ sharing visible. Then I placed the NIC's on non-shared slots on the mainboard and except for an AGP graphic card there is no other card on it.
    It could be an issue of the driver. The Intel NIC's are different models, but maybe they use the same driver module.

    I found some postings about trouble with the eepro100 driver, maybe you can try a different card for verification. also possible could be some acpi related troubles (i'd some really strange experience with epox boards running suse, where acpi and usb don't work together)
