Fail-over: Configuring second box

What configuration has to be done to the firewall that serves as the hot standby?  Does it have to have the same ip addresses and be placed on the network first or is it a plain cd install only attached to a primary that you tell is in a failover pair?

    normally don't like to point to the documentation but in this case you should give it a shot. IMHO it is very well explained how to configure a HA cluster.

    I gave it a shot, but the docs are incomplete or wrong, and if followed to the letter don't work.  I'll be more specific:

    Should the second system be set up with the same IP addresses (note plural) as the first system ?

    you do not need to configure any ip's on the second box, except the lan ip (which is done on the setup)
    (for accessing the Webadmin)

    Shutdown your Slave.
    Login to the Master and configure it for HA following the manual.
    The Master will shutdown. Keep it down.
    Boot the Slave.
    Configure the Slave for HA following the manual.
    Shutdown the Slave.
    Keep it down.
    Boot the Master.
    Wait until the Master is up.
    Boot the Slave.
    (the Slave will recognize the Master an will stop the Bootsequence at a defined level.)

    Note: use Networkcards which support a linkbeat.
