ASL 4.016 with IBM 300L (P II/400, 256MB, 6.3GB)

Hi everybody !
Just a simple question: “Is there a difference between version 4.008 and 4.016 in the way the HW-detection is done ?”
I’ve installed the ISO of the 4.008 without any troubles, updated to 4.015 – no problems. But as soon as I try to go run the 4.016 ISO the system get stuck. Last message on my screen is: “Freeing unused Kernel-memory …………”. After this – no more reaction – even after 30 minutes – no change at all!
Any ideas ?

    You might check the CMOS for an "ACPI" setting.  Turn that off and see if you get installed.  I think that ACPI is one of the big changes in .016

    If that doen't work you might try moving NICs around or even removing some just to try.  The last GL machine I tried was picky about the cards installed.

    Hi Pablito !
    I tried it with ACPI enabled & disabled, even did the installation with the "clasic" option - no changes.
    The NICs should not be the reason - the same maschine is working fine with 4.008 !!!

    I would still try moving or removing NICs just to make sure they aren't an issue.  4.016 has enough changes that you can't judge by what works on previous versions.  The GL is pretty fussy with multiple NICs and I've seen it lockup during installs.

    Maybe the best solution is the earlier version patched up to 4.015 and wait for an Up2date 4.016.  I don't think there are any security issues at 4.015.

    Good luck.  FYI, it is getting colder here in Canada, hows about on your side of the world?  Got to be better than that hot summer I heard about.  We had it lucky and had a lovely summer.  Now for the snow, yeah!

    Whenever you get hardware detection errors for something that used to work, you should always call them in; but you will have to check if they support it first, and couch your report with that info...

    Hello Pablito !
    Tried all different configurations – with NIC’s without, different slots, …….. – as soon as I install the 4.008 ISO, everything starts working immediately.

    I already was thinking the same thing, but if I just upgrade from 4.015 (is what I’m currently running), wouldn’t I run into the same problems !?

    About the weather: It’s already a little colder here (about 5 to 10°C during the day, around 0°C around the mornings), we had snow in Vienna two weeks ago but it was gone after a few hours. But in the Tyrolean Alps we had more than 1 meter of the white powder last weekend.
