i'm looking to build a astaro box, tring to spend under $300.
any help or ideas ? i did a few searchs and came up with nothing. any succes stories with any chip sets? i don't care about onboard nics cause i have a few extra ones. TIA

How about a VIA EPIA 800 bundle from MWave

For $125.16, you get the motherboard (which has a built-in 10/100 NIC), 128MB of PC133 RAM, and the two assembled and tested.

Given the fact that you are not willing to spend more than $300, I assume that you are building for home use only and not for professional use.

In my case I used an old Compaq DeskPro EP550 with 128Mb and 3 3Com 905CX NIC's.
I'm not realy awary of secondhand prices but it should be possible to get such hardware for less than 300$
