su - doesn't work

Hi all,
I'Ve installed ASL 4.008.
My problem is, I can't su - from loginuser to root.
message is wrong password, but when I use "root" and same the password at the console is works.
Whats the problem? Can anybody help? Is there any parameter in /dec/login.defs?

    Try a different putty (e.g., Le Putty) on a different machine.

    That's the only thing that makes sense to me; your putty client is whack; or you're not 'talking' to the right box (accidentally su'ing to another unix box...)

    I've the same problem, when I'm local.
    I can login direct as root 
    When I login as loginuser and make su -, I cannot, wrong password.  
    putty should not have a problem.

    Can you take a look at the WebAdmin's admin access log? What is there? (Console might respond wrong passwd, even the real reason was another.)
    Did you try re-setting the password from root console, or did you reboot the box?
