Frusterated with Webadmin - No access

Sounds like the browser;
what are you using? IE? Opera? Konqueror?
If it's IE, you will need to be at least SP2;
Java must be enabled
(add it to "Trusted Sites"...)

P.S. Good opportunity for you to try Opera,
if you're on a Windows box.
It's quite fast...
  

I have tried access from another box on the LAN.  It worked with Opera... that is wierd and a little frusterating. But it worked. If you know how to get it to work with IE than I'm sure there are more people  that are having this problem. Thank you guys.

Ok so I got to the GUI on the webadmin login page... but i wouldn't log me in... Im running NAT and DHCP from the cayman router...could this be a problem?  

Can you explain what you mean by "it wouldn't let me log in?"

Is it complaining about your password or what?

If you can see the webadmin login screen, you should be fine for the rest of the webadmin application.

As for getting it to run under IE, again, add it to your trusted sites list.   

Well I put in the correct password... and then it said "Loggin in..." and then it hung.

You said it wasn't working at all, then it worked better;
what was changed?

The fact that it works for Opera, we've ruled out the media.
Hell, I'd just use Opera at that point...

Did you already put the firewalls IP to your IE Proxy settings ??
Then please check if you put the IP of your firewall also into IEs ' Don't use proxy for the following ... '.

My own experience is like this:
Using W2K SP4, IE6 SP1 + several Microsoft patches

--> Connecting to our internal firewall works with no problems
--> Connection to some other firewalls (outside) does not work from  my  computer, but it works from every other computer in our network (if allowed by rule)
(some work, some don't.....)

I have no idea  why this happens, but i think it started after updating from IE5.5 to IE6.
It makes no sense, that some connects work, others not. (But it's not very uncommon, that MS Systems and Progs make no sense  )
And believe me, i tried a lot to fix it (Browser cache, Refresh every page, patches, preferences in IE) but could not get it work.

Now, i am sure that it's a problem with my local system, and i live with it....

By the way; my questions were not fececious or meant to 'make you go away'. Get me as much of that information and I will do some searching to figure it out. Sounds like some SSL incompatibility between IE and Open Source...

First of all it didn't "work" with opera...but i seems to try harder... It goes to the login gui but then won't login... I know the pass is good cause the shell will use it. (says cannot connect to remote host)

Agrreed; symptomatically, I get the same thing you describe when I run a browser in high security mode (no Java). Can you disable the Stopzilla to see if it makes a difference?

Also, to clarify, you say in the posts above that Opera worked, then it didn't work. Do you mean to say that Opera works from another machine, but not this one? If Opera worked from that other machine, did IE work there?

Regarding a trace, I was referring to Window's "Network Monitor" or Open Source's tcpdump+ethereal. That's a bit of work; let's look into these other things first.

I am most concerned to establish that a completely successful browser connection works from SOMEWHERE, because, if not, either your network card or cabling is bad (the media), or the machine that's running Astaro is hardware crippled (Apache is not running properly).
  

What browser did you use to go through the setup part. You know, after the first time you connected via a browser. 

Ok, Ive tried disabling Stopzilla and Norton AV, also running IE in Low security mode. Ive added the 192.168.1.1 to "trusted sites" list.... and nothing.  I used IE the first time i set everything up... it ALWAYS works when i reinstall, then when i bring eth1 up, it stops and does all this crap. I can still log in from the shell.

I have the cayman router going to the ASL box and the internal network.... and i have the ASL box (eth0 = plugged into the internal network (a simple Dlink 5 port switch) 
Then eth1 = plugged into the cayman router.  The reason I am doing this is that the cayman router is serving DHCP to the internal network right now! I thought i could get ASL running while the network was in tact... and then switch control over to ASL once it was functional.  Im sorry if this was important info... but it's hard to give every single detail...and Im going to have trouble shutting down the network while i get ASL functional. If you have any questions ill answer them and by the way, thanks to everyone that is trying to help me.

Are you telling me you have the same router plugged into both eth0 and eth1?? (Sorry, doing this in text as opposed to diagrams can be tough)

As for using the Cayman's DHCP; you will find that Astaro's DHCP is solid and easy to manage...

Regarding to my last post in this thread i want to tell others how i solved my problem:
In my IE properties there are two checkboxes depending to HTTP 1.1
1.) Use HTTP 1.1
2.) Use HTTP 1.1 via Proxy

The second one was set ! After disabling it, everything worked well again, i can now access every foreign ASL.....
..... of course only the ones i'm allowed to

you guys got it.
The reason why the IE session 'stopped' was because the firewall saw the same session on two interfaces and said "BS!"...
