Mainboard for 7-NIC setup

If you are averse to Quad ethernet boards (they work well and can be found on eBay for as low as $25 - I am using a pair of DLink's that have the DEC tulip chips), try the Intel dual-port pro server NIC's.  I use them in OpenBSD firewall and WindowsServer boxes with great success.  You will only need three PCI slots for six NIC's (perhaps 7 NIC's if your MB has an onboard NIC), and a three PCI slot MB is much easier and cheaper to find than one with 7-8 slots.

I just found a brand new 2 port NIC's for $14 (SMC9334BDT), but I personally haven't tried it.    

If cost isn't a problem the Intel 4port 10/100/1000 card should work as well since the Intel cards use the same driver for all of the cards. 

*Edit*  Sorry *Cough* most of the cards.  I remember earlier back there were problems between using the Intel Pro1000T Desktop vs Server Card.  But if I recall correctly that was in 2.x & needed to modify the modules.conf file to use the proper driver after installing on cards that auto detected.  I haven't ran into the problem of not using the Intel Pro1000T Server Nic vs using the Desktop version in 3.x & 4.x so it should be good to go but I'll post once I confirm it first hand.

Oliver.  A friend of mine "tech from a company south of here" said he got one of those running running on 4.008, I'm not 100% on it since I haven't seen it first hand, so I can't tell you if it's compatable or not due to me being the type that doesn't take anything for face value & need to see almost everything first hand.  I'll be getting one in here but need to get the R&D budget approved first.
