RED - Interface & DHCP

On my Red Interface (eth1) i don´t get any IP Address that should be assigned by my ISP Provider (Cable Provider).
Connecting Windows XP on my Cablemodem, I get some IP Address and can connect to the entire Internet.

    my cable internet works fine..

    presumbly you havent by any chance not set the external interface (eth0) to get ip's assigned by DHCP

    in Astaro under
    Network / Interfaces

    edit the eth0 external nic that you have connected to internet to get Type/address/netmask/default gateway from your isp dhcp

    its from page5 of initial setup.pdf that you can find on http://docs.astaro.org/ (i think) a worthwhile read. i hope they dont mind me using one of there images..

    Try turning off the cable modem for at least a minute before trying a new NIC (ASL).  DHCP lease gets locked to the first card on many ISPs.

    Your ISP may have your dhcp limited to a specific MAC address.  If so, you may have to call them to register the MAC on their system.

    Just to ask the obvious, but when you say "RED" interface you aren't referring to the traffic light next to that interface are you? This would indicate that it is down, and as such won't grab an address, if this is the case, click the red light to green to bring the interface up and it will then grab an address (provided everything else is correct)

    might be off, just checking with you just in case.

    I second the turning the cable modem for a minute or so, plugging it back in, waiting for it to link up and then boot your astaro box. That's what I had to do with mine to get it to pick up an ip. If that doesn't work, then call and see if you're locked in to a specific mac address. Or, if your nic in your desktop isn't built in you could use that in your astaro box so the cable company would see the same mac. Probably easier to call though if that's the case.

    It looks to me like bkrosco has the right idea. That's how I'm set up right now. I use a public ip in my dmz also for my webserver though.
