Help, newbie here. I have installed ASL 4 on my old HP Pavillion 4440 (AMD K6 333). Set up as a dual homed box between router and W2K DC. Attempted to add external interface NIC in WebAdmin, typed in proper settings for static IP addy (192.168.1.x). Hit save, got nothing but ???'s in display of addy's for this interface. Internal is fine (192.168.2.x). I can ping W2k box from ASL box and vice-versa on internal interface. Tried to add eth1 on Linux box from shell, says "can't find device". After playing with BIOS on HP box, found that by changing advanced settings/installed OS to "other" I can install eth1. (choices for advanced/installed OS are: other, Win95, and Win 98). Ifconfig confirms both NIC's configured properly and with correct addressing with BOIS set to "other OS installed". If I set BIOS to W95 or W98 installed, Linux won't see the second NIC!. BUT, I can't ping W2K machine or vice-versa with BIOS set to "other" OS installed. Ping on Linux box of both NIC's installed and loopback works fine (with BOIS set to "other OS installed), but trying to ping W2K box (192.168.2.x) or router (192.168.1.x) returns 100% packet loss. Do you think this is a BIOS issue with the Pavillion box, or am I missing something very simple?
