How Low can ASL GO. Power requirement that is.

Hi,

I am curious to know what is the lowest Processing power in use (at least 30 days) for version 4. series.

Include Processor, Memory, Harddrive.
Also let me know how many connections installed, the type of connection to the internet and if possible the utilization.

I am still recovering from the Microsoft More Power is better syndrome, instead of better is better and I am trying to get into the reality of Linux.

My current configuration which is an overkill, is P3 1.13Ghz 36GB H/D and 256MB Ram.

I know i can go lower I run a Lotus Mail Server on Less. My CPU Utilization is almost nil and I am running an average 5 computers on the network with DSL and all 10/100 Cards.

What about you?

    Personally, I run a athlon 750mhz with 20gb HDD and 256mb ram. I have absolutely no problems with it, it's fast and everything. However, the lowest requirements are 400mhz processor, 8gb HDD and i think 128mb Ram.

    Someone here is running ASL on a P133

    Not recommended though.

    Definently not recommended, especially if you want to make use of all of the wonderful features ASL has to offer. Plus, this is your firewall, without it, you won't have internet. You can pick up a ghz processor and motherboard for next to nothing these days. Basically, the better system you have to offer, the better if you have the resources.

    I have 4.009 running on a Pentium1 - 233, 64 MB RAM, 6 gig HD.

    Works just fine for me, although I don't have to support a lot of users.

    It took a bit of work to get it going on this system, but it's all I had to run it on! It was worth the effort!

    I have one running on 
    Pentium 166
    128MB RAM
    2.5GB HDD 
    Normal Installation as per normal.

    Max Downloading at 1.2Mbps usage is about 50% CPU and 70mb RAM
    With PPTP x 2 = about 80% Usage.

    Running HTTP Proxy in Standard Mode seems fine.
    Transparent seems slow.

    Going to buy the AV for e-mail once I figure our what it is about.

    Previously run it on a PIII 650 512MB and low usage so swap with this P166.

    Would push it to SMTP and POP enabled to see how it goes and IPsec once I figure out how to use it...

    So you didn't have to do anything special in the install to get it going? Or did you have to tweek it a bit?

    I was running on a 1.26GHz.
    I recently bought 2 compaq PII 350 and a celeron 300 ($50 each) and I am now running on the P2-350.

    I love linux. Previous user used Windows 98/NT and had to upgrade to new hardware.

    I am hoping to use them to do few linux experiment. I feel like a kid in a candy store after discovering linux.

    Performance is excellent.
