I need help BAD!!! I am new at this

Just as a long shot, have you tried plugging the cable in the other nic on the firewall? Also, are you connected via a hub? If not, make sure you are using a cross-over cable.

I know this may sound simple, but I always return to the basic simple stuff when I get stumped. 

I am not sure if my cables are cross over, but I will go an buy them and I'll what happens.

One way to tell if the cable is a x-over... hold up both ends... if the colors are identical from left to right it'll be a normal cable... if it's a x-over pin 1&3 will be switched as well as 2&6 on one end.  it'll be that way unless wiring code has changed since I've last modified a Cat-5 cable to be a cross over. 

I have the same problem: installation is ok, i can ping the IP of the eth0 card (so i suppose i connected the cable to the right nic  [;)]

The administration pc and the astaro are both connected to a switch, there's nothing else between them; the addresses are 192.168.0.5 for the astaro and 192.168.0.1 for the administration pc

WHAT'S WRONG?????????? 

Thanks for your help, I went and bought cross over cable and i was able to connect using Webadmin, but it is crashing on me.  Any idea why??

Pluto: what do you mean with "crashing" ? Your browser crashes? The connection times out? Or do you get an error from the webserver, and, if yes, what does it say?

The connection just times out on me.  One minute I am able to connect the next I can't

I've been "playing" with PC's for 20 years, assembling, installing and using every kind of operating systems, programs and almost everything that exist over the net........
........now I lost 7 days trying to make this thing work......i tried 4 different nics, 3 mobo, 3 CPU, did the installation 6 or 7 times......everything was ok, but it didn't work..... [:(]

Well, now i found out what the problem was.....an S, a simple, humble, stupid S....I always used http instead of httpS  

obviously, now it works fine
