Shuttle Boxes

Hi all -- we're looking at installing Astaro in a Shuttle box (XPC) -- the SB52G2.  It has the North bridge-Intel 845GV, South bridge-ICH4 chipsets, and the onboard NICs are Intel 540EM Giga LAN and Intel 551QM 10/100 LAN.  This little box is attractive because of the two onboard NICs (one being a giga), and because there are two free PCI slots for additional NICs.

The $64,000 question is:  can Astaro handle those NICs and the chipset?  I've looked over the HCL and those components aren't specifically listed.

If that box won't work, does anyone have suggestions?

It *should* work, but if they aint on the HCL that usually means nobody has specifically tried them.

Not sure either, I've only run Astaro on the SV24 and SV25 (the P3 chipset boxen) and they make nice little firewalls (see sig) I'm looking at getting one of the newer shuttles soon so will do some astaro testing when I get some in the workshop.

Yes.. you'd need an enterprise license for gigaE... However you will find that card everywhere because Intel is replacing the epro100 with epro1000...

Does anyone have any Experience ?

Re the GigE interface licensing: this is going to increasingly become a problem, because so many systems nowadays have gigE hardwired onboard. Our backs are getting pressed against the wall on this. Astaro, what say ye? Do the licenses less than the Enterprise edition downgrade a GigE NIC to 100Mb (which would be fine), or are we risking inadvertently violating a licensing agreement?

I'd also like some clarification, as I've mentioned in another thread, I'd like to build a Shuttle SB62G2 and use it as a dedicated ASL machine since it comes with two on-board NIC's. Unfortunately, one is an Intel Gigabit adapter, and I am unable to purchase an Enterprise copy of ASL since its only for a couple machines at home. I agree, even if the Gigabit NIC's only worked at 100MB, that would be fine with me, as almost all built-in ethernet controllers on most newer hardware is going to gigabit.
