Alcatel Speedtouch Home

Hi,

Can anyone confirm or deny that this modem works with astaro? I've messed around for a few hours trying to get it to go, using a pppoa connection but it doesn't seem to want to work. If it it's known not to work then i'll give up but if someone has got it to go then i'll persivere and post my errors.

This modem works perfectly on my debian box, just by putting my login details in pap-secrets this in /etc/ppp/peers/adsl:

    I have a Speedtouch V4 at home, working with my ASL4 box, but, I have a /32 for the Speedtouch, and a /29 routed to it for the ASL and NAT/PAT for stuff behind it. The Speedtouch then statically routes IP addresses in the /29 to the ASL's outside IP. If you only have a /32 then (I believe) you would need to NAT on the Speedtouch to get the real world IP routed to the ASL.

    I think you must have a "Speedtouch Pro" or atleast that is what they are called here in NZ, which does NAT and port forwarding etc...

    The speedtouch home is a PPPOA  Ethernet bridge, it does the PPPOA translation from the ADSL and authenication is done via a PPTP connection, it has no NAT capability at all, it's just a bridge.

    There appears to be support for PPPOA connections in Astaro V4, and it uses PPTP to try and connect to the modem, but from the packet logs it seems that packets on port 1723 (PPTP port) are getting dropped, but i have no rule in there to do this, and even if I put a rule in to do it they are still dropped. I followed the set up documentation exactly, so my last conclusion is that perhaps it isn't supported, or that the support is quite buggy at the moment.

    Anyone got any experience with PPPoA connections here?
