oss_inst.dat corrupt

I'm installing 4.0 for the 1st time, and I'm having a problem.  When the installation gets to the point where it starts to install the Open Source sftwr, it fails.  I switched over to the other console (Alt-F3), and there is an error that oss_inst.dat does not appear to be a valid tar file.

btw, the MD5 sums for both .dat files come up valid.  i also went as far as to get a diff ISO, this time from the German FTP site.  The first came from the American HTTP site.


has anyone seen this?

    you're not going to beleive this!  i was messing around in the Bash shell, and noticed that I was able to get mount to seg fault.  so on a hunch, I pulled a DIMM from the mobo, and now it's installing w/o a problem.

    how 'bout that?
