Problems with NIC not known

I can't say about that card or what a multi port will show but have you tried setting it up anyway?  I have an old 10MB card that shows unknown but works just fine.
But it would seem you should see two cards listed.  Worth trying anyway.  Showing unknown also means the driver did indeed load.  

I tried this.  The web interface lets me define the NIC interface, but the interface won't come up.  After I set up the definitions, using SSH and SU to do a 'regulsr' ifconfig, I do not see the interface, nor when I do an ifconfig eth8 do I get anything.

The card was sold to me as an INTEL 4 port 10/100 NIC.  Well I went to INTEL's web site and they don't make any such animal.  I went through INTEL's help on identifying your card, and the bar code on this card is MUCH different than what INTEL says theirs are.

I spoke with the seller and they will pay for return shipment and fully refund my costs.

Meanwhile I have to get another card.......

 

Suggest returning the card.  I think Dlink makes a 4 port, check them.

If you do an lsmod you should see the module loaded.  But it sounds like you have an unknown.

I already have the RMA.  Dlink cards won't fit into a 7" long area that is all the COMPAQ SFF has for PCI cards.  I already boougth another MATROX NS-FNIC/4.  Should have it early next week.

Look for the modules listed in /etc/modules.conf
more /etc/modules.conf

See if you even have modules listed for all the cards.

To see what ASL sees in PCI:
cat /proc/pci | more
