Nic Down Problem

I have been testing different firewall products on the same hardware for the past few weeks so hardware is known good with no conflicts. Install of ASL 4.000 though has been problematic. Cannot get Intel Nic (Public side nic. Private side nic is a Intel also but with no problem) to stay up. If I configure for DHCP, ifconfig will not show an Ip unless I hit the "admin" button in Webadmin a half-dozen times, then within a few seconds it goes back down. If I assign static settings ifconfig will not show the interface at all.
Any ideas?

    Hi all,

    I'm new into using Astaro firewall but I'm also experiencing some strange bahaviour of one of my nic. It has the tendency to stop working. At first had no idea what the problem was and re-installed astaro. But then the problem came back again. I than decided to bring the interface down and up again with the ifconfig command on the firewall and it works again.I have no idea what cause the nic to suddenly stop working. In this thread I am aware the topic starter is having the problem with his outside(ISP) nic and not his private side nic. But I decided to post my problem also maybe it is the same thing causing the problem. I have to say I'm using Astaro 4.0 with a home license and the nic which is giving me problem is a Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC and not an Intel as the topic starter.

    Anyone knows something? I'm using it at home and it is not taht a big deal if I have to bring teh nic down and up again, but i can imagine it to be a problem in a larger environment.

    Any help will be apreciated.

    Try using the new beta Astaro in the Beta forum.
    (Thanks for not supporting...) thread.

    It has better Realtek support I believe.

    Tried it (the beta), same result.  And the ISP is Roadrunner.  The kernel log never says anything about the DHCP lease, just that eth0 is up whenever it does manage to work those few seconds, nothing logged when it goes down.

    I think the Problem is the Automatic IP- Change from the ISP !! You should check this, but i have no idea how to fix this... anyone ideas??

    Not an option in this area. There is only 1 cable ISP and  the DSL companies might as well be dialup.
    I have continued testing and trying other packages and out of the packages that work at all, ASL is the only one that will not work with this ISP.

    I've study the log Files and this was my Answer! Astaro will wait 900 Seconds for reconnect to the ISP after an IP- change or Sync- fail.
