Nic Down Problem

I have been testing different firewall products on the same hardware for the past few weeks so hardware is known good with no conflicts. Install of ASL 4.000 though has been problematic. Cannot get Intel Nic (Public side nic. Private side nic is a Intel also but with no problem) to stay up. If I configure for DHCP, ifconfig will not show an Ip unless I hit the "admin" button in Webadmin a half-dozen times, then within a few seconds it goes back down. If I assign static settings ifconfig will not show the interface at all.
Any ideas?

Which Intel NIC is it ?
Have had 0 problems with Pro 100 Management Adapters.

Same here. To be more specific... Both nic's in this machine are Pro 100+ Managment Adapters with the Intel 82559 controller.

In further testing I took the computer to my office where I have 2 class C networks. No problems. But on my home network I'm attached to the Internet through a cable company where their DHCP assigns a 255.255.248.0 subnet mask.
So maybe I've found the reason for the problem. ASL is not compatible with Class B subnets?

That should not be the problem. According to your first posting, the NIC is temporarily up and configured. Did you take a look into the logfiles (DHCP related stuff, thinks in kernel log)?

That should not be the problem. According to your first posting, the NIC is temporarily up and configured. Did you take a look into the logfiles (DHCP related stuff, thinks in kernel log)?
