ASL 4.0 Newbie is having crashes.

I have installed ASL 4.0 several times, but as I make various configuration changes, the web services keep crashing.  I have even sucessfully completed all the Up2Dates.  The entire ASL 4.0 box may be crashing but I'm not sure.  I have to hit the reset switch and that brings it back, though my changes are saved.  I'm using the ASUS A7S-VM mb, 900 Mhz Duron, 512 SDRAM, Creative CD-ROM, WD 20gb hard drive, a standard floppy, NetGear FA311 NIC (plus the one on the board) and no overclocking.   I suspect the MB and have updated the BIOS, but to no avail.  However the 2.0 and 3.0 of ASL worked just fine.  Any ideas?

    UPDATE (ASL 4.004):  There are two versions of the NetGear FA311.  You need to make sure that if there are two of these in the box, they need to be the same version.  As an added note, the onboard NIC (Realtek-8139/8139C/8139C+ seems to work well with these two other NIC's.  So far the system has been stable.

    The chipset on the mainboard is the ITE-IT8705F.
