P4 and Slow Boot

I have a P4 based motherboard with a 1.7 p4 installed.  I installed Astaro no problem and have it working.  The only problem I see is that it takes FOREVER to boot up into the system.  It goes through several slow system checks and file system checks before finally booting.  I'd estimate that the boot time is close to 5 minutes.

Is this normal for Astaro on a P4 with 256 mb ram?  If not, what can I tweak to speed it up?

Will this make that much of a difference? I have used much bigger on standard Linux installations and had them boot up in much less time. Does Astaro do a complete hard drive check on every boot?

Yes, but the other linux systems only perform a file system check if the system did not go down properly the last time it was taken down. Astaro runs the file system check against all partitions every time it comes up. And I really wouldn't recommend disabling the feature.
