OKay...

I am a happy ASL 3.216 user...was a very happy user till a few days ago

suddenly my dsl connection went down for no apparent reason?

I began checking everything i could....

I decided to re-install ASL and upgrade to 4.0 and I changed the external nic card for good measure...

I cannot get my external nic to stay up

I know that my adsl modem and connection is working properly b/c I have connected to the service by plugging my xp laptop directly into the modem and connected that way

However when i switch back to the asl nothing....i have even restarted the ask multiple times and tried re-installs...all to no avail

i am currently using ADSL from verizon on the east coast of the US?

Is anyone else here using ADSL from verizon on the east coast with 4.0 pppoe without incident??

I really need to get this connection back up and running?! any ideas?

    I have tried with 2 different types...

    one netgear and the other a linksys....

    the strange thing as quoted above is that everything was working fine with the linksys card until a few days ago...

    i have tried re-installing 3.216 and even tried an install of 4.0 neither worked

    Under both versions it should be noted that the NIC cards were both recognized (internal and external)

    I also called verizon and asked the tech if there had been any recent changes in their PPPoE servers or scripts and they said NO...allthough i am not really sure how reliable that info really is....

    anyway i am desperate to get this back up and running...

    ideas?

    ok.. sorry for the questioning again.. should have posted the first one more precisely.. please do not only tell us the nictype, but the modules used as well... (cat /etc/modules.conf)

    is there anything in the kernellog telling you about problems with eth0/eth1  ?

    ill try and post the logs as soon as possible...however check this out in the mean time

    this is the exact same problem as me...and his also began a few days ago as well....

    our logs look pretty much the same but ill try and post mine anyway

    so now this looks like a verizon issue...

    so again if anyone reading this is using adsl on the east coast of the US or you ASL guys have verizon contacts...can we try and figure out what the issue is....

    or at a minimum can we at least see if we can knock this out as an issue

    allright peeps....its fixed..

    here is the solution;

    add  default-asyncmap to /var/chroot-pppoe/etc/ppp/options
    and restart pppoe afterwards by disabling and enabling  the interface or easier with a reboot

    and that's all she wrote...working like a charm now...pheew
